Do I need to see a doctor if I feel OK?

Following a car accident, you may feel shaken up, but otherwise seem fine. You may not think you need medical attention. It is in your best interests to see a doctor anyway. This is true for a couple reasons. One if your health. You may have suffered head injuries or internal injuries and just aren’t having any symptoms yet.

Another reason is that a doctor can document the injuries that you do have. This documentation will help your case when you seek financial compensation. If you were recently involved in a Georgetown car accident and haven’t received medical attention, we encourage you to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Do I have to report the car accident to my insurance company?

Yes. Even if the accident wasn’t your fault, you need to let your insurance company know that it happened. Failing to do so could make it more difficult to recover financial compensation. We encourage you to contact them as soon as possible following your accident. Just give them the facts – for example, who was involved, what happened, and when and where.

Don’t discuss who was at fault for causing the accident or admit to doing anything wrong. If the insurance company wants to ask you more in-depth questions or requests that you make a recorded statement, politely decline. Explain that you need to talk to your attorney first. Then call our office.

The insurance company offered me a settlement. Should I take it?

It’s not uncommon for insurance companies to contact accident victims soon after the crash with a settlement offer. They may tell you it’s the best that they can do and promise you quick payment. By this time, your bills may be adding up and you may be unable to work. Taking their offer can be very tempting.

The insurance company is only making this offer because it helps them save money. It won’t come close to providing compensation for all of the damages you have suffered. That’s why we strongly encourage you to consult an experienced car accident attorney before accepting any offer from the insurance company.

What damages can I receive compensation for?

In general, you can seek financial compensation for economic damages. These are damages you have suffered that can be given a specific dollar amount.
